On Sunday, October 9, the church voted to adopt the motion presented by the Sanctuary Improvement Committe concerning improvements and renovations for the sanctuary of Bassett Creek Baptist Church. We need your help!! On November 20 there will be a special offering recieved in the AM worship service as a kickoff to the Sanctuary Improvement campaign.

IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE SANCTUARY IMPROVEMENT FUND:

There are two ways that you can be a part of this exciting effort. All of the windows in the sanctuary are going to be replaced with brand new stained glass windows. These are available to be purchased in honor or memory of a loved one. The cost of these windows are $1,100 each and your loved one will be honored with a plaque stating that the window was given in their honor. There are a limited number of windows available for purchase and they are going fast. If you are interested in this, please contact the church soon at (251) 275 - 8024. If you get the answering machine, please leave your phone number and state that you want information on sponsoring a window and we will contact you as soon as possible with details.

In addition to the sponsoring of the windows, we are efforting to raise $10,000 to begin the renovations. For this effort to be successful we are going to need the enthusiastic support of all those who love the church. What follows is the complete motion that was adopted by a unanimous vote of the congregation on October 9, 2005:

The following recommendations are presented in the form of a motion by the sanctuary improvement committee of Bassett Creek Baptist Church on Sunday, October 9.

 

I. RENOVATION OF FOYER ROOMS

 

-          One of the foyer rooms will be renovated to function as a restroom. This is in response to many who have pointed out the need of an accessible first floor restroom for not only the elderly members of the congregation, but for visitors, handicapped, and all those in the church.

 

-          One of the foyer rooms will be renovated to function as a cry room. This will enable the room to still be used as it currently functions, but a soundproof window and a speaker will give parents with anxious babies a place to go and console their child while not missing any of the service.

 

-          When the church decides to expand and build first-floor restrooms, these rooms can be converted back to their current form and use.

 

II. SANCTUARY IMPROVEMENTS

 

-          Sheetrock will be put on the walls and the ceiling. The current chair rail will be lowered. The upper two thirds will be a light color and the bottom third will be a darker color.

 

-          All sanctuary lighting will be replaced. The new sanctuary lights will be similar to the lights that are in the foyer. There will also be sconces on the walls to aid in both looks and lighting.

 

-          New ceiling fans will be installed.

 

-          New doors will be installed.

 

-     Audio and Video equipment will be updated/installed

 

-          The Baptistery will feature siding doors that will allow sound to be better and also aid in heating and cooling, in addition to aesthetic improvements.  

 

-          New lighting will be installed for the choir and the pulpit area.

 

 

III. STAINED GLASS WINDOWS

 

-          New stained glass windows will be installed in the sanctuary. These will be available for families or individuals to purchase in honor or memory of a loved one or loved ones. There will be 8 large stained glass windows to be sponsored and 4 smaller ones. The larger windows will be approximately $1,100.00 each and the smaller ones will be a lesser amount.

 

 

IV. FINANCIAL RECCOMENDATIONS

 

-          The cost for the entire project , excluding the stained glass windows which will be sponsored by individuals or families, will not exceed $20,000.

 

-          All members and those associated in some way with Bassett Creek Baptist Church will be informed of the project and given an opportunity to participate.

 

-          Work will not begin until all windows have been sponsored and at least $10,000 has been collected for the project.

 

-          All monies given to the sanctuary improvement fund will be kept in an account separate from the general fund. This fund will be managed by Jane Sellers. The signatories on the account will be Jane Sellers and the chairman of the deacons ( currently Frankie Baugh.)

 

 

 

 

Regular updates on finances and process of renovations will be given regularly to the church body at the monthly business meeting and more often when circumstances justify. All efforts will be made to keep disruptions to services to a minimum. In the effort that the church must be unable to be occupied on a weekend, services will be moved to another location as necessary until the work is completed. Interruption of service times is predicted to be minimal. It is the sincere desire of this committee that funds be raised by the end of this calendar year, which would provide ample time for the work on the church to be completed by Homecoming of next year (2006).
